MICHELLE CORKADEL

I have spent the last 20 years working to improve southern Anne Arundel County. My professional experienced combined with volunteering for a variety of civic and educational organizations means I have a unique understanding of not just how our schools are funded and operate, but how they relate to our families, businesses and communities.
I currently serve as a Constituent Services Officer, representing the Southern and Western Portions of Anne Arundel County for County Executive. Primary duties include constituent services; Not My Child Opiod Prevention and Education Program Moderator, broadcast tv talent for Week In Review; representation for the following boards and commissions: Crownsville Hospital State Task Force, Weed Warriors, Bee City USA, Agriculture and Agritourism Commission, Anne Arundel and Annapolis Coalition to End Homelessness (“Homeless Coalition”), Southern High School Business and Community Advisory Board (BCAB) Liaison, Police Community Relations Council, South County Bridges to a Drug Free Community, Western Anne Arundel County Substance Abuse Prevention (WASP), Anne Arundel Clergy Advisory Council, Laurel Racetrack Impact Fee Committee, and several workgroups for policy and legislative review. Past Employment: Owner of small consulting firm specializing in operations and development services.
I served the county from 2007-2009 as Chairman of the Planning Advisory Board where I was recognized for my efforts to "Keep South County Rural", slow suburban sprawl thru smart growth policies and made key recommendations reforming County spending.  Our capital budget recommendations put the needs of the people over the needs of the bureaucrats.
As a wife and mother of two children, one just graduated and other a high school freshman in our school system, I have a personal interest in the success of our education system. My priorities will always include our family and community values and a conservative approach to spending and policy structure. The students are the most important constituent in the room.

LATICIA HICKS

I am running for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Board of Education- District 7 to be an advocate for our students, teachers, and the community as we work toward achieving a stronger public school system. I am an educator, a mother of two young children who attend AACPS, and a citizen with a stake in our community. Having benefited enormously from the public-school education that I received, I understand the importance of a sound public-school system and the need for efficient and effective governance practices.

Because of my more than twenty-two years as a federal law enforcement officer, most of which I spent administering educational services, and my experience as an English as a second language (ESL) teacher, I am uniquely qualified to bring strong and effective leadership to the Board of Education. My priorities include advocating for an appropriate school budget, retaining and recruiting the best qualified teachers, reducing class sizes, and promoting forward-thinking policies and programs to address the safety, well-being, and development of all AACPS students.

I am a Curriculum Specialist with the Bureau of Prisons. I hold a Master's in Education from New Jersey City University, a Master's in Public Administration with a certificate in Human Resources policy and management from Florida International University, and a Bachelor's in criminology with a minor in political science from the University of Miami.

I live In Crofton with my husband and two sons.
