Anne Arundel County's eastern boundary includes 534 miles of Chesapeake Bay coastline, and the entire county encompasses four main watersheds and tributary areas that feed a number of creeks, tidal rivers, rivers, and bay. County residents and visitors enjoy the recreational use of these resources, and countless residents depend on a clean and healthy Bay for their livelihood. It is in all our interests to ensure it and its tributaries remain as healthy as possible.
Unfortunately, some of these waterways are not safe for swimming, fishing, or crabbing, a Maryland tradition.
Take Action AAC supports legislation at a county and state level that helps to clean the water locally and in the bay, reduce air pollution, and ensures the health of our environment. In 2018, we supported the following legislation:
- Clean Energy Jobs Act
- Forest Conservation Act
Anne Arundel County
- Community Solar Pilot Projects (Anne Arundel County)
- Polystyrene Foam Ban (Anne Arundel County)
* Approved by the County Council.
* Vetoed by County Executive Shuh
In the coming year, we will continue to fight to end the use of polystyrene in the county, increase the number of community and other solar projects, and continue to build coalitions with other like-minded organizations to effect change.
